About Kagera Farms
Background
Kagera Farms Ltd (“the Company”) is an agro-processing company which was incorporated on the 20th January, 2015 and with its current headquarters in Jinja - Uganda. The Company was started by Mr. Henry MUKISA, a man with a passion of community transformation through primary agricultural production and value addition working with rural and peri-urban small holder farming communities in Eastern Uganda. The Company has access to good climate and weather along the Nile River and Lake Victoria belt, which favours crop cultivation, even where irrigation is necessary.
Kagera Farms Limited recognizes that the agriculture sector is at the very centre of Uganda’s development in terms of maintaining improving food security and in taxes through sustainable primary production and value addition.

Kagera Farm Limited deals in different crop value chains including:
• Pineapple,

• Apple bananas,
• Mangoes, and
• Cotton among others.
As its operational model, the Company works with small holder farmers as out-growers along these value chains where it enhances their capacity for maximum output. Kagera also maintains nucleus farms/gardens which act as production buffers but also areas of traceable and well managed primary production “seed” for the next planting season. With clearly defined market destinations, the Company also offers contract farming opportunities to its farmers.

The Company activities can be traced in the areas/districts of:
Jinja, Kamuli, Kayunga, Iganga, Mayuge, Namutumba, Budaka and Tororo.
Kagera Farms Current Capacity
✓ Over 6 square miles of production land in Tororo
✓ Over 100 out grower farmers involved in pineapple and cassava growing in the greater Busoga region
✓ Between 5,000 – 6,000 cotton out growers in Budaka District (willing to integrate in other marketable crops)
✓ About 100 acres nucleus farm (pineapple and cassava combined)
✓ Trained and competent field staff
✓ Primary production machinery (one tractor)
✓ A traceable record of working with the Uganda’s local government
✓ Sustainable fish farming and poultry

Some of the Achievements
Since its inception, these are some of the achievements the Company has realized:
• Supplied over 10 tons of pineapple and banana to the UAE market
• Supplied over 100 farmers with good quality cassava and pineapple “seed”
• Having a total of over 6,000 trained out-grower farmers in different districts
• All or most of the outgrows trained in crop organic production methods to the
specifications of the client
• Advocacy in primary agriculture production and agro processing
• Enhanced the capacity of rural men and women to demand for accountability from
their government
• Most of our group members are playing a key role in the government’s Parish
Development Model
• Supporting farmers with improved NARO CASS1 quality cassava cuttings
